Oakland Raiders Show Support To The Golden State Warriors:
The Oakland Raiders have not been hesitant to advertise their support of the Golden State Warriors in the 2017 NBA Finals.
It was just a few days ago that Oakland bought a full one-page advertisement in the SF Chronicle in support of Golden State. It is also common to see Raider players at Oracle Arena cheering for the Dubs.
To continue their loyalty, each member of the Raiders put on a yellow shirt at their most recent practice.
The trouble with having superstar players – as the Oakland Raiders are about to find out – is that you have to pay them superstar wages. Having some of the best players in the league at their positions on your roster isn’t necessarily a bad problem to have. There are plenty of teams around the league who would love to have that sort of problem.
The problem though, is finding a way to dig up enough money to pay said superstars while still putting enough talent around them to remain competitive. It’s a problem that GM Reggie McKenzie and the Raiders are about to experience first-hand.
The first contract Oakland is going to have to deal with is quarterback Derek Carr‘s. Given his value to the franchise – and really, there can be no doubt about his value after the team’s catastrophic meltdown in the wake of his injury last year – Carr is going to command a hefty payday.
Let’s not focus on the long term, though. Instead, let’s turn our attention to the near future, when the Raiders will be heading into OTAs and training camp looking to finalize what should be a terrific 2017 roster. With that in mind, I want to hone in on a few unheralded players who could surprise some folks in the coming months.
As you’re probably aware, there’s a ton of young talent on this roster. Thanks to the efforts of general manager Reggie McKenzie and Co., this Raiders team has done a tremendous job of drafting over the last few years. As a result, we’re slated to see some young bucks shine during training camp–potentially even enough to earn some starts in 2017.
That is the reason you’re here, though, isn’t it? To see the five Raiders players I believe will see some surprise starts during the 2017 campaign. These players might not be on everyone’s radar right now, but they will be when they’re making a big impact for Oakland on Sundays.
